Driveways, shed floors, paths, patios and decorative finishes are the jobs we get called out to in Raglan.
Off-street parking is the usual reason people call us to pave an area on a section that has been managing with metal. Our standard driveway is 100 mm of 20 MPa concrete over compacted basecourse, with 665 mesh in the top third at 30 mm cover and control joints cut into it, rated to 2.5 tonnes.
Tell us what parks there. A boat trailer, a van or a vehicle left standing for months are three different loading questions, and the last one is not a problem at all.
Slab and foundation work is where the ground decides the job, and around Raglan we are dealing with sand near the harbour and clay on the hill sections above the town, which do not take the same footing depth.
We build to NZS 3604, with slab thickness, thickenings and reinforcement set by the engineer plan, not by us. An extension gets tied to the existing footing so the two do not move independently. Tell us whether a geotechnical report exists yet, because that is what decides how much of this we can put on paper.

Narrow work carries the full mobilisation for very little concrete, which is why we programme it alongside a bigger pour where we can.
Steps get formed where the level changes rather than ramping a whole run, and the tread finish gets more texture than the flat sections do.
We pour shed floors for the small home-based businesses Raglan is full of, which means a slab that takes a workbench, a hoist or stock, with a hardstand area outside it.
Floors go down at 100 mm as standard and heavier where load concentrates. Above 3 tonnes gross we move to 25 MPa, and higher again for heavier use. What the space is for changes the slab, so say so at quoting.
Decorative finishes earn their money on a surface that is looked at, not driven on, so we steer them towards patios and entries here.
Colour comes either as oxide batched through the mix or as a hardener worked into the surface. Oxide through the mix will not wear back to grey at the edges. Stamped work includes a grip additive in the sealer, and NZS 3114 covers the finish classes.
Sealing is worth more here than most places, and we say so, because surfaces sit unused for stretches and then get heavy use in a burst.
Sealed concrete sheds dirt, resists staining and washes down without scrubbing. Salt-laden air off the harbour pushes moisture into an unsealed surface, and that is what starts the dusting you see on older driveways around the town. We use a penetrating sealer where sun and wind are hardest, because it soaks in rather than sitting on top to peel.
Repairs cover stable cracks, perished joint sealant and spalled edges, and we will tell you which of those you actually have before quoting a fix.
Where a panel has dropped or rocks under a wheel, we lift and re-pour that panel instead of dressing the surface over a base that has moved. A crack that has not moved in a year is a filling job. One that steps up on one side has ground movement behind it, and filling it only hides the cause.

The $100 end of the plain range assumes clear access and ground that needs no extra work. A decorative finish carries its premium whatever the area, and is quoted per job.
Every range covers the complete job: subgrade preparation, excavation and cartage, compacted basecourse, reinforcement, the pour, the finish, joint cutting and clean-up. Sealing, repairs, house slabs and foundations, commercial slabs and breaking out existing concrete are quoted per job with no published figure.
