Whatawhata is in Waikato District and is counted as two statistical areas instead of one, Whatawhata East and Whatawhata West. That split matters when you read any number about the place. At the 2023 Census, 84.8% of households in Whatawhata East owned their home or held it in a family trust, against 73.3% in Whatawhata West.
