Driveways on Horotiu’s residential streets follow the same build we use across the district: 100 mm at 20 MPa over compacted basecourse, mesh at 30 mm cover, joints saw-cut.

Joint resealing is the job that prevents the most damage for the least disruption, because open joints let water straight into the base.

Commercial slabs, yard hardstand, house slabs and foundations to NZS 3604, breaking out existing concrete and concrete sealing are all quoted per job. There is no square metre rate that survives contact with a yard, because the loading and the joint design change everything.
One thing worth checking on any quote you compare: a low per-metre rate is often supply and place only, with excavation, cartage, basecourse and drainage sitting outside the number. Ask what the rate includes before you compare two of them.
Horotiu Site Conditions
Waikato District Council describes Horotiu as a small rural town just off State Highway 1, around 8 km north of Hamilton and about 9 km south of Ngāruawāhia, and as home to Northgate, a business park covering 109 hectares. AFFCO’s head office and one of its meat processing plants are based here too. Council points to the road and rail links, noting the park sits 120 km from the ports of Auckland and Tauranga.
That is why the concrete mix here is unusual for a settlement this size. The estimated resident population of the Horotiu statistical area was 810 at 30 June 2025, with 93 businesses counted in the same area at February 2025. A few hundred residents, a lot of commercial activity, and a service list that has to cover both.
Council’s own Horotiu Local Area Blueprint lists investigating the opportunity for additional industrial land among its top priority initiatives. That is an aspiration recorded in a blueprint and not a zoning decision, but it tells you which way the demand is pointing.
